Movie: Redefining Preclinical Testing
Check out our virtual update held on 27th May 2025 by Prof. Dr. Sebastian Franken. You get a compelling lecture about “redefining preclinical testing – the shift toward human-relevant cell models”, that examines the evolving landscape of preclinical research. As limitations of animal models become increasingly evident, there is a growing need to adopt more predictive, ethical, and human-relevant approaches. This presentation will highlight the rise of advanced in vitro systems — such as organoids, organ-on-a-chip technology, and 3D cell cultures. Especially, human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) play a pivotal role in building predictive, patient-specific in vitro models. As conventional animal-based methods face increasing scrutiny for their lack of translational accuracy, iPSC-derived models are offering a powerful, biologically relevant alternative for drug screening, disease modeling, and toxicity testing. In this video, Professor Franken will explore how iPSC technology, combined with additional advanced cell-based systems, is driving a paradigm shift in preclinical testing.
