Innovation doesn’t always have to start with an NCE or NBE. Our latest publication on the intranasal application of ivermectin clearly demonstrates the additional potential that already well‑established APIs still hold. New therapeutic pathways are created not only through new drug substances, but through intelligent reformulation and innovative drug‑delivery approaches.

The study investigates a newly developed microsuspension of poorly water‑soluble ivermectin formulated as a nasal spray. The results show that high‑dose intranasal ivermectin is safe, very well tolerated, and pharmacokinetically promising—a clear signal that alternative routes of administration can open up entirely new therapeutic horizons.
Why this matters: Innovative drug‑delivery concepts can improve bioavailability, reduce side effects, and enhance the efficacy of well‑known active ingredients.
This is exactly where the HWI group comes in. From formulation development to clinical manufacturing, we support the development and optimisations of new dosage forms, including those for poorly soluble active ingredients. With innovative technologies, extensive experience, and strong development expertise, we unlock the full potential of established molecules through smart reformulation. Whether intranasal, parenteral, or other modern delivery approaches—we make it happen.
