The demand for innovative applications is higher than ever. In addition to new formulation technologies, the focus is also on conventional application routes with new targets. One promising approach is the intranasal application route. Mostly used for local therapy in the past, it holds great potential for systemic application of small and large molecules. In addition to circumventing the hepatic first-pass effect and being highly accepted by patients, intranasal application has many other advantages. It can be applied to new as well as for known active substances – for example, as an innovative alternative with competitive advantages over already approved drug products.
